Summit Bracket Racing Series Race 5 at Memphis

Summit Bracket Racing Series Race 5 at Memphis

The racing excitement heated up over the weekend as the fifth race of the 2014 Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams hit Memphis International Raceway (MIR). The races produced another first time winner, a sweep of the Footbrake and D.O.T. Street classes and some gains in the point standings.

Leigh Hubbard, sister of IHRA seven-time World Champion in Top Fuel, Clay Millican, picked up her first career event win in Super Pro and Todd Berry swept the Footbrake and D.O.T. Street Saturday night.

The points battle is heating up as Hubbard advanced 12 spots to fourth and Mark Meadows moved up one spot to third in the Super Pro class. Drew Mann Tracey made some big gains in the Jr. Dragsters as he closed the gap from 54 to 12 points and Sophie Newberry jumped from ninth to sixth in the point standings.

"It was exciting to be a part of Leigh's first career win and see Todd take home two championship plaques," remarked Paul Cartwright, Director of Operations. "Leigh is making her first full season run at the Championship in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro Class so this was a great win for her tonight. It was a great night of racing all around."

Jr. Dragsters: Drew Mann Tracey, a part of the Motorvation Motorsports team, from Millington, Tenn., took home his second straight victory. Tracey defeated Weiner, Arkansas' Sophie Newberry via a red light start by Newberry in the final round. Layna Tracey, another Motorvation Motorsports team member, went home with a semi-final finish to round out the R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragster category.

Jr. Dragsters Second Chance Shootout: Devin Johnson, a member of the Steady Stackin' Motorsports team, grabbed the Second Chance Shootout win by defeating Covington, Tenn.'s Devan Lowe in the final round. Lowe left the starting line too soon, turning on the red light and handing the automatic victory to Johnson in the opposing lane.

Berry grabbed the Footbrake win over Arlington, Tenn.'s Chuck Turman in his JAWS Racing Pontiac Firebird. Turman turned on the red light by leaving the line 13 thousandths of a second too soon. John Williams from Millington, Tenn., also with JAWS Racing, went home being the lone semifinalist of the evening. Matt Anderson, Bobby Shaffer and Alex Hubbard took home quarter-final finishes.

Super Pro: Leigh Hubbard, sister of Clay Millican, picked up her first career event win in her 2009 M&M Dragster on Saturday night. Berry defeated Millington, Tenn.'s Cliff Hubbard in the final round of D.O.T. Street with a stellar .007 reaction time. R.T. Turbines added a bonus to the purse and gave the quarter-mile runners more money and paid back to the quarter-final round.
