The IHRA will broadcast this program showcasing their premier sportsman series, live throughout the season thanks to increased support from Summit Racing Equipment and collaboration with IHRA and the Summit Pro-Am Tour host tracks.
“This is an exciting opportunity to improve the coverage of IHRA Sportsman Drag Racing. We tested this live coverage program during the 2013 season,” said Jim Greenleaf, Summit Racing’s Motorsports and Events manager. “The fans like it and racers and host tracks appreciate the attention. The IHRA has done a great job bringing everyone together to make this a reality.”
The season opener will be at Immokalee Regional Raceway Jan. 31-Feb. 2. Results and championship showdowns from all six divisions spanning 12 states and three Canadian provinces will air on the IHRA websites. For more information go to www.ihra.com.

Local racers and their quarter-mile machines will officially open the 2014 competitive season for Queensland, Australia’s premier drag racing facility – Willowbank Raceway – this Saturday, Feb. 1.
Kicking off the year’s festivities will be the opening round of the 2014 Street Series, which features the three categories of Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff (ladies only) brackets.
As the entry level competition for aspiring drag race champions, the Street Series provides an accessible and affordable competition for Sedan and Motorcycle racers who wish to prove their mettle on the race track while chasing a coveted Queensland Drag Racing Championship (QDRC) trophy.
Saturday’s Street Series event will kick off with time trials from 4.30 to 6.30 pm, with racing from 7 pm.
The action for February won’t stop with the Street Series, with Saturday, Feb. 15, to host the first of eight QDRC rounds for the year and Saturday, Feb. 23, seeing crowd-pleasing Nostalgia Drag Racing come to town. As always, these events will be run alongside the track’s Wednesday evening and Saturday Test n Tune events where anyone is able to come along and try their luck against their friends at the Ipswich facility.

Blower Drive Service (BDS), the Southern California manufacturer and distributor of superchargers and supercharger components and historically a leader in supercharger components for street driven vehicles, has been acquired by another Southern California company with ties to the supercharger industry, Belt Drives Limited (BDL).
“I’m proud to announce that my company has come to an agreement with the Railsback family, who have owned BDS since its inception, to buy their company,” Belt Drives Ltd. owner Steven Yetzke said. “BDL has been making supercharger pulleys for many years and we are heavily involved with and support drag racing. We have sponsored several Top Fuel bikes through the years so this acquisition made perfect sense for me, my company and BDS.”
The sale of the company won’t interrupt the day-to-day business of BDS.
“I’m pleased that Mrs. Norma Iskenderian, who has been managing the BDS company for over two decades, has agreed to stay on in her present position and that we have also come to an agreement with Craig Railsback to stay on and work on special projects,“ said Yetzke.
BDS will continue to do business from its current location at 12140 Washington Blvd., Whittier, CA 90606. Contact BDS at 562-693-4302 or go to www.blowerdriveservice.com.
The engineering, assembly and sales departments will also remain at that location while some of the manufacturing will be moved to the BDL plant at 5500 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim CA 92807. Contact Belt Drives Ltd. by phone 714-693-1313 or go to www.beltdrives.com.
The Belt Drives facilities include their own aluminum foundry, over 50 CNC mills and lathes, gear-cutting department and a rubber manufacturing facility that includes state of the art CAD design and rapid prototyping.

The third DSE season begins June 7-8 at Toronto Motorsports Park.
The sportsman racers will be competing for the coveted NHRA trophy at three events this year. The NHRA Provincial Drag Racing Championships will be held July 26-27 at Toronto. The Western New York Super Rod Association will also bring their Super Gas cars to the event.
The third event where NHRA trophies will be awarded will be the season-ending DSE Championship Finals at Toronto, which will also feature the NHRA National Dragster Challenge. This event awards double points toward the DSE championship.
Other events on the DSE schedule are Aug. 16-17 for the Sportsman Nationals at St. Thomas Raceway Park and Aug. 30-31 for the Labour Day Championships at Toronto.

Kasey Janzen of REVS Full Throttle Powersports has been supporting the TNTSS in many ways since the series began. “It just made sense for us to get behind the race of champions. Performance is what we’re all about and this race brings out the best of the best,” said Janzen.
The 2014 ROC will take place on Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Thomas Raceway Park after the regular race that day and will be run on the eighth mile.
For its 52nd season, Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pa., will once again offer a full schedule of drag racing action from late April to mid October. The season will feature the return of many fan favorites, along with some big additions to the slate.
The 30th NHRA Nationals on Oct. 2-5 should continue to be one of the fastest races on the Mello Yello Series schedule and a pivotal part of the Countdown to the Championship.

A last minute change in the ANDRA Top Alcohol calendar has inspired last season’s runner-up, Steve Ham, to load the transporter and head west to Perth (Australia) for this weekend’s opening round of the championship.
Ham’s East Coast Lubes-backed team had originally intended to sit out the opening round and join the tour at the now cancelled Adelaide round.
“We’d done our sums when the calendar came out and really wanted to invest our finances in going quicker more than diesel costs, but with the calendar changing, we’ve called in a favour from Brady at Metal Trades Group and he’s dropped everything to get our rig over to Perth. I’m really thankful to him for taking care of us, but I’m also a little scared what he’s going to ask as a favour in return!” Ham jokingly conceded.
“I really feel like this weekend’s opening round is going to set the tone for the rest of the season,” Ham said. “Whoever is quick in Perth will be quick for the rest of the year and with the horsepower we keep finding in these Noonan X1 heads, we can’t afford to miss being part of the action.”
The ECL Mustang heads into the 2014 championship as the quickest and fastest Top Alcohol Funny Car in the country, and with every date on the calendar locked and loaded, Ham is determined to go one better than his two runner-up results in the past three seasons, and finally nail a championship win.
The ANDRA Top Alcohol Championship begins this weekend alongside Top Doorslammer as part of the Pro Showdown event at the Perth Motorplex. For fans unable to attend the event, live audio streaming of the Motorplex commentary is available at www.motorplex.com.au and by clicking the “live audio” icon at the bottom right of the screen. Bell Racing USA will continue as an associate sponsor for selected events of the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.
Bell Racing USA (www.bellracing.com) will require every driver making a claim to have a current SA2010 or equivalent Snell rating, an advertising release, a W9 on file, and a Bell Helmets decal on both sides of the car at the start of eliminations.
“With the success the program had in 2013 including a Pro Stock World Championship with Jeg Coughlin Jr., as well as several Regional and Divisional Champions it was easy for us to make the decision to continue the program,” said Bell Racing USA’s Toby Hallett, Helmet Technician and NHRA Sponsorship Program Manager. “2014 marks the 60th Anniversary for Bell Helmets and we are excited that this coincides with the 60th running of the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, and look forward to some special helmet designs to commemorate the occasion.”
Hallett will attend the nine races that Bell has chosen for the contingency awards program and will be available for any helmet related inquiries.
